Solar Bonus Scheme - Current scheme status (announced 8th May 2011)

The NSW Government has announced there will be no change to payments for customers already receiving or about to receive tariff payments under the Solar Bonus Scheme.

This includes customers on the 60 cent or 20 cent tariff rate.

The Solar Bonus Scheme provides a feed-in tariff for eligible customers with small solar or wind generators that are connected to the grid. The Scheme commenced on 1 January 2010 and operates until 31 December 2016. Customers wishing to connect a renewable energy generator to the grid without participating in the Solar Bonus Scheme are able to do so.

General information on connecting to the grid

A grid feed system collects electricity produced by solar panels which can be off set against the electricity you purchase from your energy supplier.

A meter is used to measure both the import and export of electricity. Solar energy that is produced from your solar panels currently off-sets the $ amount you buy at 1:1, however, with the growth and interest in solar both domestically and internationally a premium price for electricity you produce would be the ultimate reward for your intiative towards a clean and green approach.

Solar Pumping Solutions can help you take advantage of setting up your new grid connect system saving you money on rising energy costs and in many cases making you money.

We will make sure your grid connect project runs smoothly, on budget as quoted so you are confident you have a reliable and quality long term solution.

We have been working in the solar industry since 2002, we have a fully licensed and accredited electrician and the business owner will be onsite for every installation to ensure the highest level of service and quality for your project.

After an initial consultation, all projects are inspected onsite so you can meet us and ask any questions and you have a personal knowledge of who you are dealing with.

We organise your project from start to finish, including quality PV panels, inverters, expert installation and advice and we make all the necessary paperwork applications on your behalf.

Before you decide to proceed with anything we will supply you with a full, written quote that does not have any hidden surprises or costs.

Do some browsing through our website and when you are ready, contact us to book a time when we can come to see you, or just get some more information about what is available, up front costs and payback periods or request a quote online.

Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) now known as STC's

The purchase of a Small Generation Unit (SGU) may entitle you to Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs) if your SGU is eligible. These certificates can then be sold and transferred to liable entities (usually electricity retailers) using a market based online system called the REC Registry, or via the ORER-managed STC Clearing House.

As of 1 January 2011 STCs are replacing Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) for all eligible SGUs. All validated RECs existing at 1 January 2011, or certificates created for installations completed prior to 1 January 2011, will become Large-scale Generation Certificates (LGCs), which must be traded on the LGC market. They cannot be traded through the STC Clearing House. For more information about the difference between STCs and LGCs, please visit the Office Of Renewable Energy Regulator website.

Solar Credits

or "5 x REC/STC Multiplier", an added incentive to boost the support to residences and businesses installing small scale solar and wind powered generation systems. Solar Credits apply to the first 1.5kW of capacity meaning that associated RECs/STCs are valued at 5:1, after 1.5kW and up to the 10kW limit the normal 1:1 RECs/STCs value is maintained.

  • Solar Credits is a mechanism which increases the number of STCs able to be created for eligible installations of SGUs through the use of a multiplier.
  • Solar Credits are not means tested.
  • Solar Credits apply to the first 1.5 kilowatts (kW) of capacity installed in an eligible premises (see below) Generation from capacity above 1.5 kW, either on the original unit or on any additional capacity installed at a later date, will still be eligible for the standard 1:1 rate of REC creation.
  • Solar Credits apply to the first 1.5kW of all SGUs, including solar, wind, and hydro installations.
  • If you are installing an off-grid SGU your system may be eligible for Solar Credits over and above those applicable to grid-connected systems.
